A complete shutdown is being observed in north Kashmir’s Sopore area on Friday against the killing of a Hurriyat Conference (G) activist in the town. Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) member Hakim-ul-Rahman was killed by unidentified gunmen near his house in Bomai area of Sopore on Sep 8. Hakim was affiliated with the group led by Syed Ali Geelani and had been recently released from jail. The shutdown call against Hakim’s killing has been given by the joint resistance leadership (JRL) comprising Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik. In view of the shutdown call authorities have announced the closure of all educational institutions across Sopore division as “a precautionary measure”. Local sources said that all shops and business establishments are closed in the area while as traffic is off the roads. The protesting youth started throwing stones on forces deployed in the area. The forces in turn fired teargas shells at the youth resulting in injuries to one youth. However injured youth was rushed to Sub-District Hospital Sopore for treatment. Meanwhile hospital authorities identified injured youth as Zahoor Ahmed son of Ghulam Mohammad resident Sopore.
