The State Human Rights Commission on Thursday sought a reply from deputy commissioner Anatnag and SSP of the south Kashmir district on a petition regarding the “attack” on a man and leaving him throat slit last week. The notice seeking reply was issued by Commission on a petition filed by the chairman International Forum For Justice and Human Rights (IFJHR) Muhammad Ahsan Untoo. The SHRC also directed the Medical Superintendent SMHS to provide quality treatment to the injured the man, Feroz Ahmed Hajam. In the plea, Untoo said Hajam’s throat was slit by the “unidentified gunmen” and he was battling for life at the SMHS hospital. The petitioner in his application stated that a 35-year-old man, a barber by profession, was brought to district hospital Anantnag and is now battling for life at SMHS hospital, Srinagar. Police in a statement last week had said that the man suspected to have links with Jaish-e-Muhammad militant outfit attempted suicide in its custody in Kokernag area of the district. A police spokesman had said that Feroz Ahmad Hajam of Iqbalpora Kherti Larnoo was arrested after remaining under their surveillance in a case FIR number 125/2018. “During the course of questioning, the suspect went to attend the nature’s call and while in the washroom attempted to take his own life by slitting his own throat,” said the spokesman. Meanwhile, Untoo visited SMHS hospital to inquire about the health of Feroz and the treatment being provided to him. He, however, expressed anguish over the nature of injuries on the throat of Feroz.
